Over 2.1 million students to return to schools in Jordan

A total of 2.177 million students across the Kingdom will return to their schools on Sunday, Feb. 20.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs Najwa Qubeilat said Tuesday the Ministry is keen to resume in-person education in schools, and at the same time preserve the health of students and teachers by following the health protocol in coordination with the Health Ministry and the National Center for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM).
Qubeilat told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that 198,244 students aged between 12 and 17, received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while 145,806 students of the same age group received the second dose.
She explained that the highest vaccination rates were recorded among high school students (who are around 135,000 students across the Kingdom), as 78,304 students received the first dose and 56,521 took the second dose.
She indicated that COVID-19 active cases caseload, which were registered among students in less than 10 days, amounted to 33,691 cases, while active cases among Tawjihi students since they returned to schools at the beginning of the current month, reached 5,990.
For his part, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ahmad Al Masa'feh said the ministry is constantly following up on the epidemiological situation in schools.
He noted that the number of teachers who received the coronavirus vaccine reached 101,300, stressing that teachers who did not receive vaccinations will not be allowed to enter schools in implementation of Defense Order No. 35, and their absence will be deducted from their annual vacations.
