Today, there are big differences in how different teachers assess the national tests. Therefore, the government wants to make it possible to introduce centrally corrected national tests earlier than planned. The government proposes that SEK 133 million be set aside for 2024 for the work of introducing digital and centrally corrected national tests.

- The grades must reflect the student's level of knowledge, regardless of which school the student attended or which teacher assigned the grade. Incorrect grades affect both the student and society at large, it is very serious. It is therefore important that digital and centrally corrected national tests are introduced as soon as possible, says Education Minister Lotta Edholm.

The national tests must contribute to a more equal grading in that the test results must be taken into account in particular when grading. With central correction, the government wants grading to be more equal throughout the country. Central marking means that the national tests are marked by licensed and competent teachers on behalf of a government authority. Central correction of national tests requires that the national tests have first been digitized.

Digital national tests will be introduced gradually from 2024. Central correction of national tests in certain subjects is estimated to be able to be introduced gradually from 2026, which is one year earlier than previously planned, with the government's proposal.

In total, the government proposes that SEK 133 million be set aside in 2024 for the introduction of digital and centrally corrected national tests. SEK 53 million is estimated to be allocated in 2025 and SEK 60 million in 2026. The proposal is intended to be submitted to the Riksdag in the budget bill for 2024 and is based on an agreement between the government and the Sweden Democrats.
