The digital national exams will be replaced with paper exams this spring after serious shortcomings were discovered in the Swedish National Agency for Education's new digital exam platform. This has resulted in increased costs for schools and increased workload for teachers and other school staff. In order to reduce the risk of a negative impact and to compensate for the costs of extra work, the government is proposing that SEK 82 million be allocated to school principals.

The serious shortcomings discovered earlier this year in the Swedish National Agency for Education's new digital testing platform have led to the digital tests being replaced with paper tests in the spring. The resulting situation has resulted in increased costs for schools and increased workload for teachers and other school staff. The Government is therefore proposing that SEK 82 million be distributed to school principals, among other things to reduce the risk of a negative impact and to compensate for the costs of extra work in 2025.

– It is very serious that the Swedish National Agency for Education had to shut down the digital exam platform during the spring and I have great understanding for the frustration that many teachers and principals feel. We are therefore providing 82 million kronor to the schools to, among other things, reduce the risk of negative impact and to compensate for the additional costs and additional work that has been incurred in connection with this, says Minister of Education Lotta Edholm.

The government intends to propose this in the upcoming spring amending budget. The proposal is based on an agreement between the government and the Sweden Democrats.
