The membership and leadership of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Caucus are excited to announce a significant update. With the approval of the Ðãɫֱ²¥ Board of Directors, we have officially changed our name to the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Caucus. This change from AAPI to AANHPI reflects our commitment to greater inclusivity and accurate representation within our community. Here are key facts about the change, as addressed in this Q&A, to address common questions you may have regarding this transition.

What is the new name of the caucus?

The caucus is now officially known as the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Caucus, abbreviated as AANHPI Caucus.

When did this name change take effect?

The name change is effective as of August 20, 2025, when it was approved at the Ðãɫֱ²¥ Board meeting.

Why was this name change implemented?

The decision to change the name from AAPI to AANHPI was made to bring our caucus in line with the standards of national organizations that represent and serve the same communities that we aim to represent and serve. By explicitly including Native Hawaiians in our name, our caucus aims to foster a deeper understanding of the unique challenges, achievements, and contributions of the Native Hawaiian community.

How does this name change impact the caucus?

Our caucus has always prided itself on inclusivity and a sense of belonging, which is why a name change alone is insufficient to demonstrate our commitment to these values. The caucus leadership is committed to ensuring that this name change is reflected in increased visibility of Native Hawaiian stories in our programming throughout the year.

Where can I find updated information about the AANHPI Caucus?

All updated information, including our mission, initiatives, and upcoming events, is available on our dedicated Ðãɫֱ²¥ AANHPI Caucus page and our .

Who can I contact if I have further questions?

If you have any additional questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact the caucus leadership: Jessica Gonzalez and Michelle Weller, Co-Chairs of the Ðãɫֱ²¥ Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Caucus.

Most important question of all: How can I join the caucus?

Our caucus is open to all Ðãɫֱ²¥ members, regardless of their identity. You can join our community on the Ðãɫֱ²¥ Exchange and register to attend the monthly caucus gatherings.

We are excited about this new chapter for our caucus and believe that the AANHPI name better reflects our diverse and vibrant community. Thank you for your continued support and engagement.
